Angel Tree Drive kicks off

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Some East Texas children need a little extra help this holiday season, and that is where you come in.

Friday morning, Tyler's salvation army kicked off their Angel Tree Drive.

KLTV's Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto is the chairman of the Angel Tree Drive and is transforming into "Santa Scirto" this month to take on his traditional role as Santa's Angel Tree helper.

There are thousands of people in need of a holiday angel. This year there are 3,000 angels needing your help, and for many of these angels, it's not toys on their wish list.

"Most of the time, they're asking for clothing, sometimes blankets, just things to keep warm, maybe school uniforms. They're what we consider necessities, but for them it's a treat. It's a gift just to have the necessity of life sometimes, said Phyllis Weiss, President of the Salvation Army's Women's Auxiliary.

For more information on how you can adopt an angel, head over to the Salvation Army's web site.
