Hospice Of East Texas Completes Expansion

The Hospice of East Texas has completed a $3-million expansion project. The Tyler facility serves 13 counties. Hospice today unveiled its new in-patient facility, increasing the number of patient rooms from 16 to 28. The new Village Square provides an area for Hospice families to gather and relax. They can eat ice cream in the soda shoppe, watch a movie in the mini theatre, read a book by the fireplace, or have an indoor picnic. The new Pat Oge Center for Living has rooms for family counseling and support sessions after the death of a loved one. The director says the Hospice hopes to meet the needs of East Texans.

"The number of individuals pushing past 65, 70, 80 years old is growing very rapidly," Mike Couch, executive director, said. "And by the year 2020, there's just going to be a lot of us folks that need special care. And this is just a beginning."

This year, Hospice of East Texas will care for an estimated 1500 patients at home and 1200 in their in-patient facility.
