Stars Over Longview

Thirteen women were honored Monday in Longview for "rising to the occasion." It was part of Longview Regional Medical center's "Stars over Longview".

Each woman was picked because they give of their time and talents to volunteer for various community organizations.

Author Jennifer Hawthorne, one of the writers of the "Chicken Soup" series was the guest speaker. She says the east Texas women honored Monday encourage everyone to strive for excellence.

October's "Star Over Longview" is Sally Barron. Sally has been an educator for 37 years.  Although is technically retired from Longview I.S.D. she continues to work part time at the school district as a counselor.

Sally also volunteers in various committees with Partners in Prevention, Race Relations and Sabine Valley. She says despite the awards and honors she has recieved over the years, helping children is the best reward.  "When I'm working in this office and I'm able to touch a child's life or help another educator.   That to me is such a blessing and it's fun," says Sally Barron.

Sally says her father always inspired her to be the best she could be. She believes that's the key to any child's heart, having an adult being caring and supportive.
