Local joint takes first in state-wide BBQ competition

AUSTIN, TX (KLTV) - It was a smokin' good weekend down in Austin, where an East Texas barbecue landmark went up against the best in the state.

Tyler's very own Stanley's BBQ took first place for the second consecutive year, in the pork ribs competition.

Perfectly sliced, and the meat falls right off the bone, Pit master, Jonathan Shaw knows just how to cook award winning ribs.

Owner of Stanley's BBQ, Nick Pencis, has finished first place out of 50, in the Texas Monthly BBQ festival for their BBQ pork ribs.

"They took more or less their twenty best, put them in one place for a day, and had a BBQ festival," says Pencis.

Three thousand votes later, "Somehow, against some of the biggest and the best in the state of Texas, the crowd overwhelmingly chose us as the best pork ribs at the festival this year," says Pencis.

Bringing home the first place for the second year in a row, it's only expected, the demand has increased.

"We came to get their ribs, not having any luck today though," says Brian Ramsey.

"I would like to try their ribs next time, maybe they won't be sold out," says Gary Ormes.

Their menu is endless, but their ribs aren't, so you better come early!

Stanley's BBQ is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., but by the beginning of the year, they hope to be serving their award winning food during dinner hours too.
