LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin Police arrested a man early Wednesday following a fight involving a trash can, mailbox and garden hoe.
According to the report, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Woodmont Drive around midnight in reference to an in-progress disturbance. The called said her husband was being assaulted in their front yard by a man she knew as Royce Jones, 17, of Lufkin.
The caller said that earlier that day she saw three men burglarizing her neighbor's house and called 911 to report the crime. Around an hour later, Jones showed up to her house and began cursing her husband for calling police about the burglary, according to the report.
Jones tried to knock the man down, using a large trash can on wheels, and threw a brick through his kitchen window, according to the report. He then pulled a neighbor's mailbox from the ground and ran toward the man, swinging the mailbox and hitting him in the hand, according to the report.
The man then picked up a garden hoe, holding it out to keep Jones away from him. Jones ran into the hoe and chipped a tooth, according to the report.
A medical unit came to the scene and checked the man's hand and Jones' tooth.
After taking witness statements, police arrested Jones on a charge of aggravated assault and two counts of criminal mischief.
