ETX man exposing himself, possibly posing as officer

GILMER, TX (KLTV) - Police say they believe a man has been repeatedly exposing himself to women across East Texas ...and he may be posing as a police officer while doing it.

Police say what they are really looking for are victims or witnesses to come forward and file official reports so they can charge this man appropriately.

Gilmer police say they believe that the man has been doing this between Gilmer and Terrell.

"We are investigating a black male for exposing himself to women in our area. During that investigation we found reason to believe he may also be posing as a law enforcement officer," Gilmer Police Department Investigator Roxanne Warren says.

"We found some items that belong to him, or we believe belong to him, that would be the types of things you would see law enforcement use or wear," she says.

Police say he is a black male about 6 feet tall, 205 pounds and in his 40's.

He drives a black 2002 Ford Explorer with chrome rims and may even have red and blue lights on the dash.

The police are trying to get the victims to come forward and make an official statement, so that they can build a case against the suspect.

While police say indecent exposure is only a Class B misdemeanor in Texas, they say it's still very important this man is charged appropriately.

"What you find is when people expose their genitals, although that may be what is considered a low level offense, those types of things do graduate a lot of times into more serious crimes against women," Warren said.

Warren said impersonating a peace officer is a third-degree felony.

Gilmer Police would not confirm if a suspect is in custody, but did say there is no reason to be alarmed.
Anyone who has more information or may have encountered this man is asked to contact their local law enforcement.
