'Women Wednesdays' at the Habitat job site

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - KLTV 7 and Habitat for Humanity, along with several churches and local businesses have been working to build homes for low income families these last couple of  months.

A group of women who 'Jazzercise' together, but on Wednesday, they were trying something a little different.

"Handy work is not just for men--in some ways we're a little more meticulous! We may be a little bit slower but at the end of the day, I personally think you have a better product," says volunteer Brenda Maddox.

"I have always helped mothers and children, and some of these homes are for single moms who work hard to get these houses. And if I can do some small part to help someone have a safe place to live--it's just so rewarding," expressed volunteer Margo Bellew.

And that rewarding feeling is why Bellew got involved

"When I first started, I was the only woman on the Wednesday crew, and I just came by myself, I came on Saturday; I saw what Habitat was about and I said, 'I have to be a part of this,' so I started coming on Wednesday and I the only one for quite a while," says Bellew.

But after Bellew got a hold of the women in her 'Jazzercise' class, regular Wednesday's are starting to look more like "Women Wednesdays."

"We exercise together and volunteer together and we have a great leader who has invited us all out to come help on these houses," Bellew says.

So maybe they'll all continue with this 'house-ercising."

Habitat for Humanity officials say the KLTV house should be finished sometime around Thanksgiving.
