Tense moments this morning at a fire in Gregg County. A vacant motel caught on fire in Liberty City off Interstate 20 on West Point road.
At one point, the roof collapsed and firefighters had to hurry to get out of the way.
Fortunately, no one was injured. It was an old Thrifty Inn and a new owner was in the process of turning it into economy apartments. Firefighters say workers smelled smoke in one of the adjacent rooms and called 911.
Crews worked for several hours to put the fire out. No word on the cause.
