Henderson committee wants voters to make 'right' decision

HENDERSON, TX (KLTV) - Tana Hall owns and operates Mays-Harris in downtown Henderson. She has a convenient location...but lately things have been slow. And, the biggest reason, she says...alcohol.

Along with new stores and restaurants, she says alcohol could not only bring more business her way, it could also bring her town back to life.

"And, maybe families will move in with businesses. And, maybe their children will stay. That's the hope," she said.

The Henderson First Committee says the extra tax dollars from alcohol sales can give the town a make-over. And, even though opponents say alcohol is a public safety issue, the committee says that's not the case.

"Over the past few years, there have been 300 cities in Texas that have voted to legalize alcohol. Out of all those cities, not any of them have decided this is a bad thing," said Mike Smith of the Henderson First Committee.

Now, he hopes residents will make the "right" decision for Henderson at the poll.
