Arrests made in East Texas K-2 sweep

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas business temporarily shut its doors after getting caught selling K-2, a synthetic marijuana product.

Kilgore Police officers got a warrant to search D's Smoke Shop in Kilgore off of Highway 259 Friday evening, and apparently, authorities found more than just synthetic drugs.

Detective David Falco found large quantities of illegal items in D's Smoke Shop in Kilgore.

"We did recover a large amount of what we believe is the K2, synthetic marijuana product," says Falco.

K2, synthetic marijuana, is made of ingredients and chemicals that create the same effects as the real drug.

"The most dangerous thing dealing with any kind of synthetic drug that we see in these stores, is that we don't know what kind of chemicals are used to manufacture this stuff," he explained.

K-2 is often made over-seas, and authorities say it can make the user very sick.

"We do have a report of a local person who did make a purchase there at the store during the investigation case that they actually did become ill," says Falco.

And that's why Kilgore Police conducted a two-day investigation in one of their hometown shops, they want people to know, they are there to help keep Kilgore a safe and clean community.

K-2 wasn't the only illegal item in D's Smoke Shop. Falco says during the search, large amounts of pornographic material was recovered, and was allegedly being sold.

It's illegal to sell without a sexually oriented business permit.

After cleaning out the doors, cabinets, and closets, police closed the doors to D's Smoke Shop.

Two people at the store were arrested on misdemeanor charges of selling an illegal substance and operating a sexually oriented business without a permit.
