UPDATE: FM 16 at Highway 155 was re-opened overnight. All traffic is flowing normally through the intersection this morning.

UPDATE: Fm 16 and Hwy 155 North remain closed Monday evening as crews remove a semi-truck carrying an oversized load from the road.

The trailer was making its way from Longview to Utah this afternoon, but suffered major delays in Winona when it got stuck on railroad tracks.

"We're just a little old quiet country town and we don't ever have anything like this to happen," said Mary Hugle as she watched crews close down the road near her home.

"We almost saw a wreck out there with the big 18-wheeler," she said.

The truck was pulling a cooling fan for the oil field.

Because of its oversized load, the Texas Department of Transportation required this trailer to use FM 16 instead of taking any of the major highways. Everything was fine, until the truck drove over railroad tracks.

"A piece of the track was sticking up a bit and the trailer just snagged that piece of concrete," said Steven Hodge with Highway Patrol.

The load shifted, broke the chains, and then slid off the trailer. Residents say TX DOT made a mistake when they chose this route.

"He should not have come that way; he should have taken 80 or 271 or 20, but not 16," said Winona resident, Maryland Gentry.

This accident closed FM 16 and Hwy 155 North for hours. Eventually, a crane arrived to unload the fan.

Now, it's just a waiting game to see if the semi can continue traveling to its original destination.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. According to DPS, crews are still working to remove the vehicle and repair the tracks.

They are unsure as to how long this will take, but highway patrol is advising drivers to use I-20 and exit FM 16.

We will continue to check on this and let you know online at kltv.com when those roads re-open.

The semi is currently halted on the tracks crossing FM 16, just east of Highway 155N.

DPS and fire crews are on scene.
