East Texas Pianist Dies In Plane Crash

The piano was David Moore's passion. Moore was the owner of The Grand Shop in Jacksonville and sold and restored pianos, harpsichords, and other instruments. There he worked closely with another David, David Thomason.

"He was just now really getting his business built up," Thomason said. "He really liked to work on pianos and see the result of his handiwork."

Moore began taking apart his grandparents' pianos when he was only six and designed a harpsichord in high school. Aside from the technical side of pianos, Moore loved to play classical music.

"When he played, he was very intense," Thomason said. "I can't even pronounce some of the stuff he can play."

Thomason describes Moore as a quiet, but sometimes outgoing, person. He says he'll feel a little lonely at the shop without Moore working with him.

"We miss him," Thomason said.

David Moore was active in the music community. He was the treasurer of the East Texas Music Teachers Association and former president of both the Jacksonville and Tyler chapters. Memorial services for Moore are set for Monday at 4 p.m. at the Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
