Yost Announces State Senate Plans

Former state representative Jerry Yost announced Monday his intentions to replace outgoing state senator Bill Ratliff.

Ratliff announced his resignation from the District 1 seat in late November.

Yost says his time in Austin gives him the experience needed to represent East Texans.

"Too often we spend too much time listening to special interests when in reality we ought to be representing the people who have elected us."

Senate District 1 runs from Tyler to Texarkana, and includes the cities of Longview, Marshall, and Mt. Pleasant.

The state senator who is elected will serve out the remainder of Ratliff's term which runs through January 2007.

Yost joins four other candidates vying for the District 1 seat. Those are former Tyler mayor, Kevin Eltife. State representative Tommy Merritt. Longview business owner, Bill Godsey, and Henderson attorney Paul Sadler. The special election will be held on January 20th.
