Salvation Army Hosts Christmas Dinner

The Salvation Army in Tyler hosted it's annual Christmas dinner today.  More than 200 volunteers showed up to help feed around 300 needy men, women and children. One of the dinner's organizers, David Burton, said he's encouraged with the different type of turnout.

"Well if you'll look around there are a lot of people that are new this year," said Burton.

One of those new volunteers is 76-year-old Dorothy Martin. Martin said helping others has made her day worthwhile.

"I've always had my big family but see that's gone now, but this is just taking place of the big family getting together," said Martin.

Martin says she's thankful for being able to volunteer and plans on doing it again next year.
"I just got the best feeling from doing this and I will do it from now on," Martin said.

The Salvation Army hosts dinners on Thanksgiving and Christmas and a picnic on July 4th.
