If you've noticed a strange odor, taste, or color in your tap water, you're not alone. Tyler Water Utilities says it's experiencing the problem throughout its system. The water department says the water is safe to drink. Crews have been flushing the system through fire hydrants for weeks. Water officials say they think the problem is in Lake Palestine.
"We have identified a dead algae in the water, the well water coming in for the plant. That could be the source of the taste and the odor problem. It could be that the lake is turning over, which lakes tend to do every year," Gregory Morgan, Tyler Water Utilities operations manager, said.
The water department says it expects the water to clear up after the holidays. Meanwhile, officials have shut down the Lake Palestine plant. So your water should soon start smelling and tasting better.
