HENDERSON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Law enforcement officials took a Henderson County man into custody after they say he swung a machete-like knife at officers while executing a search warrant late Wednesday night.

Narcotics Investigators with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office executed the warrant at a residence west of Tool on CR 2450. Upon entering the residence, authorities say Billy Fred Wray Jr. swung a "large machete-type knife" at officers and then fled the home on foot.

Wray outran officers into the woods surrounding the residence.

Officials from all surrounding agencies, along with US Marshals and task force officers from the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force, DPS Air from Garland, Texas DPS and TDCJ dog teams, responded to assist in the search.

An alert citizen spotted a man exiting the woods on State Highway 274 early Thursday morning. HCSO's Sgt. Thomas Goodell, with the assistance of officers from the Tool and Seven Points Police Departments were able to take Wray into custody.

Wray was booked in the Henderson County Detention Center on three outstanding assault warrants, as well as an additional warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.

No officers were harmed during the incident.
