SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Shelby county man confessed to shooting his wife and her adult son Wednesday evening.

Shelby county sheriff's deputies were called to a property on highway 147, just outside of Shelbyville around 6:00 pm.

When deputies arrived, they found 37-year old Vicky Dean in a pickup, dead from an apparent shotgun wound to the face.

Her 20-year old son, Christopher Reagan Smith was found dead in a small building outside the house.

Sheriff's officials say while they were on the scene, the San Augustine Sheriff's Department contacted them and said Vicky Dean's husband, 38-year old Richard Dean, turned himself in and confessed to killing his wife and stepson.

They also say Dean had his 8-year-old son with him when he turned himself in, but there is no evidence that the child witnessed the shootings.

Richard Dean has been charged with capital murder.  So far, investigators have not determined a motive in this shooting. Dean's 8-year old son is now staying with family friends.

Richard Dean has previous convictions for aggravated assault and burglary on his criminal record.
