East Texans not too excited over Social Security increase

TYLER, TX (KLTV)- For 2012, Social Security should see between a 3.5 and 3.7 percent increase. So residents at Azalea Assisted Living should net around forty extra dollars a month. But the dollars they see may actually be far less.

"The increase in the Social Security payment probably will not cover the increase those people will face in Medicare payments," said Dr. Harold Doty with UT Tyler.

That's why Azalea residents aren't too excited about the increase in Social Security.

"I think it definitely means less cash out of this whole transaction," said resident Pat Logan.

Doty says the extra money in Social Security will come from deficit spending. So, for now, residents at Azalea Assisted Living aren't expecting much.
