Salvation Army Gold Kettle drive

The police and fire departments of Longview were at odds with each other today. But their competitive spirit went to help others.

It was the first annual Operation Gold Kettle by the Salvation Army to raise money for the needy during the holiday season. Members of the police and fire department volunteered for the event by holding a contest to see which group could get more donations.

The goal was to get a thousand people to drop 10-dollars each into the kettle to reach a goal of 10-thousand dollars. Although today's donations go to help during Christmas, the Salvation Army says the need is year round, and encourage the public to give at kettle locations which will be collecting until December 24th.
