Jail Escapee Sentenced to prison

A Gregg County inmate, who was originally serving less than a year in jail, will now spend several more years behind bars after a failed escape attempt. The 25 year old trusty, Eddie Madewell, escaped from custody in November as he took out the trash.

A department spokesman said Madewell was on kitchen duty late night on November 10th when he went to take the trash out near the jail and walked away. He was found the next day walking out of a nearby wooded area.

He was originally serving a 270-day sentence for burglary. He has now been sentenced to seven years in prison for escape.
