Investigators say the man who was shot at a Longview area home Thursday had barricaded himself in a room as deputies tried to serve a warrant to him. It happened at 4000 Smelley road in Longview around Two o'clock Thursday morning.
27 year old Benny Elliff, also known as Toby, was killed in the bedroom of the mobile home where he was staying. Deputies got a tip Elliff was staying at the mobile home, and tried to talk him into surrendering but shot him when he reached for a gun on the bedroom floor.
Elliff was hit 3 times. The deputies who fired the shots, Jim Johnson and Bill George, are on paid administrative leave while Texas Rangers investigate.
