Much cooler weather on the way!

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A strong cold front is heading towards East Texas and promises to bring the coolest air so far this autumn season.

Temperatures ahead of this front today will be well above normal with many areas seeing the upper 80s to possibly 90 degrees this afternoon. As this front moves into East Texas, a broken line of thunderstorms will develop giving some areas some much needed rain this evening into tomorrow morning.

Once the front moves through you will notice big changes in our weather. The winds tomorrow will increase 15 to 25 miles per hour behind the front with gusts as high as 30 miles per hour at times. These winds will usher in much cooler and drier air to the area. High temperatures tomorrow afternoon will struggle to reach 70 degrees with many areas along and north of I-20 remain in the 60s.

As the Canadian high pressure moves into East Texas late tomorrow this will set the stage for a couple of very chilly morning and even the threat of a little patchy frost on Thursday. Right now it appears low temperatures Thursday morning will range between 35 and 42 degrees across East Texas.

In addition to the much cooler weather, the arrival of this front will bring an increased fire danger starting Tuesday afternoon. Strong winds and very low relative humidity will cause an elevated fire danger and because of this, all of East Texas is under a fire weather watch starting tomorrow afternoon. Remember, just because it is cooler does not mean the fire danger is gone. All of East Texas remains under a burn ban.
