M. Ray Perryman, Ph.D. was in Tyler today to make his 20th annual economic forecast for the East Texas area. He predicts positive growth in various sectors, such as health care, and oil and gas. Perryman's numbers indicate the East Texas population has not grown as fast as the state's as a whole, so real estate may take a small hit.
"We're going through a little bit of a correction," Perryman, of The Perryman Group in Waco, said. "We've overbuilt just a little bit but not much. And I think you'll see development. I think you'll see a lot of retail development over the next couple of years. I think you'll see a lot of commercial development over the next couple of years."
Perryman says Saddam's capture has boosted the stock market and will boost consumer confidence, which will, in turn, help area businesses.
