Henderson Officer Is Critically Injured In Accident

A Henderson police officer remains in critical condition tonight after investigators say his pick-up slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler. Police say 24 year old Brian Vail had worked the night shift and was headed to his home in Longview. The accident happened this morning on FM 1845.

Police believe Vail may have fallen asleep.  They say he's suffering from serious head injuries. Brian Vail has worked at the Henderson police department for a year and a half.

Before that he worked as a jailer at the Rusk county sheriff's department. They say Brian always did a wonderful job."  He was a real good employee. He was very dependable. He had a great personality and always eager to get out there and really do something. He was a good guy. I hated it when he left to go to the city," says Sgt. Shirley Sanders.

The driver of the 18 wheeler was not seriously injured. Brian is the father of a one year old daughter. He is hospitalized at Good Shepherd Medical center in Longview.
