Military father returns home to surprise kids

BROWNSBORO, TX (KLTV) – Two elementary school students experienced the surprise of a lifetime Wednesday morning when a patriotic school assembly turned into their father's surprise homecoming.

Staff Sergeant Brian Fife has spent the last year serving our country in Korea. He returned home to the Tyler area late Tuesday night, but he and his wife, Peggy, decided to keep his homecoming a secret until the following morning.

While his children were participating in the Brownsboro Elementary School assembly, Sgt. Fife snuck in behind them, shocking his six-year-old son, Tanner and his five-year-old daughter, Mikala.

Tanner clung to his father's side as Sgt. Fife spoke to the those at the assembly.

"I really appreciate the sincerity. I really do, everyone that made this happen. This is a great moment for me; I'm trying not to cry myself,"

Mikala and Tanner could not wait to spend quality time with their father.

"I'm going to spend time with my daddy. We will probably play the X-box," Mikala says.

Sgt. Fife spent 2008 through 2009 in Afghanistan. The Fifes also have a nineteen-month-old little boy named Aden who is being reintroduced to his daddy Wednesday evening.
