Longview recognized for youth efforts

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - This is the second time the people of Longview has been recognized for their efforts to help create a bright future for their young people.

In a live web cast, the group 'America's Promise Alliance' recognized Longview as one of the top 100 best communities for young people in America.

The criteria for selection is simple: cities that get their kids involved in helping their communities, and mentor skills they will need to enter college or the workforce.

Keeta King of Partners in Prevention says, "My children know and they rest assured that the people that surround them in this community--whether it's educational persons or peers, they know for the most part everyone has the exact same thing in mind: securing a future."

The distinction recognizes communities making extraordinary efforts to reduce dropout rates and provide outstanding services and supports to their youth. And hopefully keep their kids in the community afterwards.

Longview has earned a grant of $2,500.

The grant can either be used to create a new program for the youth, fund an existing one, or celebrate their win.
