Gift of Love: Shakyra

It was an afternoon of fun and adventure as Shakyra and I made our way through the Caldwell Zoo.  This 11 year old just started the sixth grade.

"Reading and Spelling. and do you have some least favorite subjects? Math," Shakyra said.

Shakyra is on target developmentally and does well in school.

She is a very strong and caring individual and constantly strives to improve things about herself that will make her a better student, friend and person.

When she grows up Shakyra wants to be a reading teacher.

"Because that's my favorite subject," Shakyra said.

Shakyra is an outgoing and helpful child. She is also very social and loves to be surrounded by family and friends. When not playing with her friends Shakyra likes to watch T. V.

"Wizards of Waverly Place. I like Selena Gomez off of there," Shakyra said.

As for her three wishes, Shakyra loves to dream.

"Turn the whole world into chocolate. I like that one. Solid chocolate," Shakyra said.

She also has hope for a forever family.

"Me getting adopted with my brother," Shakyra said.

Both Shakyra and her brother, Romelo, are free for adoption. They would love to be placed together; however, they have come to an understanding that this might not happen. If it doesn't, it is very important to the siblings that they be allowed to have contact with each other.

When it comes to her adoptive family, Shakyra says, "I want them to be nice."

A small request for a girl who is looking for a family to show her the Gift of Love!

If you'd like to know more about Shakyra you can call our Gift of Love hotline, toll-free, 1-888-KIDS-275.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
