Stolen trailer sparks wildfire

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A wildfire in Smith County is now contained, and an auto theft task force is investigating.

Fire Marshals tell KLTV 7 that around 6pm Tuesday, a trailer with two flat tires ignited a fire along I-20, near Highway 271.

About 10-15 acres were burned before firefighters could get the blaze contained. Crews are still at the scene as a precaution.

2 homes had to be evacuated, but those evacuations have been lifted.

Fire Marshals say the trailer was later discovered to have been stolen. The driver pulling the trailer was cited for reckless destruction, but officials have not yet said if more criminal charges will be filed against him.

The trailer that started the fire has been seized, and an Auto Theft Task Force has been called in to investigate.
