VFD gets help from trade days

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- An East Texas volunteer fire department gets some unexpected help in their effort to raise money to keep their engines running. Longview's 'Trade Days' was help in the nick of time for the Judson metro volunteer fire department. Members of the Judson VFD came to trade days with only a donation bucket and hopes that people would help. But it soon became much more, thanks to vendors.

"The vendors said we want to do something special for Judson-metro for all the work that they're done and the fact that we've had equipment breakdown, they said we're going to donate items that you can sell and money goes to Judson metro," said Judson fire captain Tom Keith.

Judson had been plagued with truck breakdowns after non-stop use in recent wildfires, and their budget was gone.

"We decided to help Judson metro right there we knew their equipment was getting bad and everything all the vendors came together they donated money they dropped coins they wrote checks," said trade days manager Billy Clay.

"More and more vendors started bringing things over, they know that the volunteer the firefighters are out there working and striving, they have been so gracious in what they have done for us here," Keith says.

The donated items vendors intended to sell themselves. Money that some depend on each trade days event.

"What this is going to do is allow us to buy the equipment and repair the equipment we have to keep on moving," says Keith.

"People out here said hey lets help these guys and jumped on board and doing a great job this weekend," Clay says.

Saturday at trade days, Judson metro VFD raised more than 465-dollars, selling items for no more than a dollar each.
