UPDATE 12/1/11: Tanya Martin is now under indictment, accused of stealing a pumpkin from an East Texas grocery store.

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Chandler woman is behind bars Thursday after deputies say she stole a pumpkin from a local grocery store.

Tanya Lanea Martin, 25, was arrested Wednesday night after Smith County Sheriff's Deputies say she tried to make off with a pumpkin from the Brookshire's on Highway 155.

Lt. Tony Dana said a store manager saw Martin take the gourd and tried to catch her. Off-duty Smith County Deputy Dale Hukill saw the commotion at the store and also tried to catch the suspect.

Officials said Martin tried to get away with the $3.99 pumpkin in her car and during her attempt snagged the deputy with her mirror and bumper.

Deputy Hukill was not injured. Martin was arrested and booked on robbery charges. She is also held on failure to appear and not having a driver's license. She is held on $75,000 bond.
