TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Susan Combs, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, was the keynote speaker at UT Tyler today, for the 2011 Hibbs Institute Economic Forecast Summit.
"With a great education system and top-notch medical resources, the future looks bright for the East Texas economy," said Combs.
Combs says East Texas is in good shape, with good access to oil and gas sectors. She also mentioned the Texas has regained 92% of all the jobs lost since the start of the recession. In contrast, the country as a whole only got back 22%.
"If we have good employment numbers, we're not being forced out of our houses, we have a diversified economy those are three really good underpinnings that go along with educational infrastructure and of course medical," says Combs.
"One out of almost 1,000 homes goes through foreclosure, which is a better percentage than most of the nation."
