2 homes taken in electrical fire

MORRIS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Fire destroyed two homes Tuesday morning in Morris County.

Both fires broke out in the 200 block of Senters Avenue in the community of Omaha.

"I remember waking up this morning thinking, 'Wow it was a weird dream,' and then I realized I wasn't in my home, wasn't in my bed, and it wasn't a dream. It was real," says homeowner Haley Gibson.

Smoke still drifts above Gibson's home.

The electrical fire started at her neighbor's house, and within minutes, it quickly spread next door.

She says a loud popping sound woke her family.

"My husband jumped out of bed, grabbed the gun and thought somebody was trying to break into the house and he opened our bathroom door that leads into our kitchen and he just saw red flames and you could feel the heat from the neighbor's house. He just yelled get the kids and get out of the house now," she recalled.

Nearly everything was destroyed--except for a few irreplaceable items like her children's baby pictures and a homemade cross.

One of her son's will celebrate his third birthday on Wednesday. Most of his presents were lost in the fire.

"I don't think they really understood that everything was gone. I don't know how I am going to do it," expressed Gibson.

A bulldozer tore down what was left of Haley's home. Friends and family were there to comfort her as she watched the house she loved crumble to the ground.

Luckily, the Gibson's do have homeowner's insurance.
