SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - More than 15 TISD students were injured when the school bus they were riding in was hit by another car.

Emergency crews were called to Lavender Rd. (CR 35) and Marble Rd. just after 7 Monday night.

School spokesperson Laura Jackson says 17 students were transported to local hospitals to be treated for minor injuries.

There were 26 students on the bus at the time of the crash. The students attend Dogan Middle School.

The students are part of an after school program called "Ingenuity." The program is part of an agreement between TISD and UT-Tyler.

Emergency workers say the driver of a station wagon side-swiped the bus. Neither driver was injured.

The bus driver, who is not being identified, has been with TISD for five years.
