COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A man is in custody following a botched bank robbery that included dropping his driver's license when he was running away and a vehicle pursuit.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said 23-year-old Jabriel Jowan Jones is charged with entering a bank with the intent to steal money and failure to stop for blue lights.

Lott said deputies responded to a robbery call at 5:21 p.m. on Wednesday at TD Bank at 8850 Farrow Road. When deputies arrived, a bank employee told them that Jones handed a note to the teller demanding money, but fled the bank without receiving anything. As Jones left the bank, he dropped his drivers' license, investigators said.

Deputies got an excellent description of the vehicle from witnesses, Lott said, which allowed an alert deputy on patrol to spot Jones on Broad River Rd. Jones was captured after he led deputies on a vehicle pursuit from Broad River Rd. back to Farrow Rd. at Gateway Corporate Blvd, investigators said.

Deputies recovered a gun belonging to Jones in the vehicle he was driving and investigators are gathering information to determine if the weapon was in any way connected to this crime.

Jones is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
