UPDATE: Identity of suspect in weekend chase released

UPDATE 10-3-11, 10:58: Officials have released the name of the suspect in a weekend chase involving an 18-wheeler. Michael Scott Cook, 42, was arrested and booked into the Gregg County Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault on a public servant and evading arrest with a vehicle.

UPDATE: Officials have confirmed that the suspect, who is still not identified at this time is described as a white male from Georgia.

The suspect was pulled over for not having a license plate on the front of his truck while towing a trailer. The suspect then became aggravated and left the scene.

Smith county constables pursued the 18 wheeler starting at mile marker 578, crossing into Gregg county until officials shot out the trucks tires near the Eastman Rd exit on interstate 20.

The suspect is charged with aggravated assault in an attempt to hit a DPS vehicle and for fleeing and evading. He is currently in the Gregg County Jail.

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An 18 wheeler led police on a chase along interstate 20 on Saturday.

Officials tell us Smith County constables pursued the 18 wheeler and shot out its tires near the Eastman Rd. exit on interstate 20.

The chase ended and the suspect has been arrested.
