Tyler teen remembered

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Some of Chandler's friends might describe him as spontaneous, outgoing or musically inclined. But more importantly, they would tell you he had an unbelievable love for people.

His friends called him Jimmy, a nickname he picked up at a young age.

"I've never met someone else that is more on fire for God than Jimmy," says Nathan Baber, one of Chandler's closest friends.

At only 18-years-old, Chandler spent his summer in China, volunteering at a school where he taught a class on character.

"As a father, you're certainly excited about the opportunity. You're certainly concerned and scared about just the time alone and by himself," says Chuck Brazell, Chandler's father.

Everyone that met him loved him.

"They pull Chandler from one classroom to another so chandler had to skip lunch and dinner and supper," says Hong Zheng, one of the teacher's at the school in China.

When Chandler returned to the United States, his family took a vacation to Montana. When it was time to come home, Chandler stayed behind to work as a church camp counselor.

"The lord really brought his heart to where it was to love others. I could never give him that. I'm trying to learn from my own son," Brazell says.

While working at the camp, Chandler went swimming in a river and tried to swim behind a waterfall, but he did not make it out. When his friends learned of the accident, they started a Facebook page for him, allowing people to share thoughts like this:

"I actually had one friend up in Indiana and she honestly thought that he could have been an angel" Baber says.

The staff at the school in China was so moved by Chandler, that one of the teachers flew all the way to Tyler to present his family with a "Heart of Love Award," Something that could not be more fitting for such a loving teen.

"He would be like Nathan, you know you just need to feel peace because life, life is beautiful," Baber says.
