Traffic Stops Ends With Suspect Shot By Trooper

A shooting involving a Longview DPS trooper is under investigation by the Texas Rangers. Saturday night, trooper Adam Bell pulled over a vehicle for a minor traffic violation. It was just west of White Oak on highway 80.

Trooper Bell says the driver, 34 year old John Fleming, was acting erratically, saying at one point, Fleming walked to his vehicle and then turned to walk back to the trooper allegedly with his hand in his pocket. After 2 orders to show his hands, Bell says Fleming made a quick motion with his hand that he felt was threatening.

The trooper shot Fleming once in the stomach. He's now listed in good condition at a local hospital. Texas Rangers say Fleming did not have a weapon at the time of the shooting.
