Longview man arrested for beating up girlfriend

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A Longview man is in jail after assaulting his live in girlfriend.

According to the arrest affidavit, police were called to the residence at 903 E. Melton Street in reference to an assault family violence just before 10:00 pm, Monday.

When officers arrived on the scene, the victim told them that 43-year-old, Vernon Robinson, her live in boyfriend for the past year, had hit her in the face, once with his hand, and then with a blunt object. He then proceeded to strangle her using his arms and hands. The girlfriend received a swollen area over her left eye and a bloody mouth from the beating.

When she tried to call 911 he took the phone from her and would not let her make the call.

Robinson also physically restrained her when she tried to leave the residence to seek medical help for her injuries.

Officers arrested Robinson and charged him with Aggravated Assault with Weapon Family Member, Interference with Emergency Phone Call and Unlawful Restraint.

He is in the Gregg County Jail with bonds totaling $12,000.
