Firefighter Is Injured In House Blaze

A firefighter is hospitalized while helping to fight a Longview house fire.

It happened on 706 Green street. The homeowners, Carla and Truman Gardner, were not at home but their dog was killed. Carla, a volunteer for the Salvation Army was so distraught over the loss of her dog, she was taken to the hospital.

When firefighter's first arrived on the scene witnesses thought someone was inside so they went in to make a rescue.   "When we arrived they said we have someone in the house so they were making a rescue effort at that time the firefighter was injured in the rescue effort.and then come to find out the lady wasn't there,"says Mark Moore with the fire department.

"It's my god mother's house and my wife called me to get her animals out but when I got here the house was burned down," says Gary Nelson.

The name of the firefighter has not been released but he is listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

The exact cause of the fire is not known.
