UPDATE: ETX police officer injured in overnight wreck

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KLTV) - A Nacogdoches police officer is recovering after being involved in a wreck with an alleged drunk driver.

According to authorities the crash happened just after midnight in the 1400 block of South Street.

Police tell us the officer, Sgt. Keith Hawkins, was in his patrol car when another car collided with him. The officer was transported to a Tyler hospital with severe facial and pelvic injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, Tarcisio Chan-Ramirez, 31, of Nacogdoches, was arrested on a charge of intoxicated assault with a vehicle, a third-degree felony.

Neither the investigating DPS trooper nor a DPS spokesman were immediately available for comment.

Sgt. Hawkins is listed in fair condition at East Texas Medical Center.
