Patriot guard holds annual gathering

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV) - A volunteer group that honors returning veterans and those who have fallen in the service to country, held its annual gathering today. They've become a familiar sight when troops are welcomed back home they line the roadways to honor fallen heroes. The Patriot Guard have become synonymous with honoring the military. The guard set aside today for meeting and reflecting on what they do, in their annual gathering of the guard in Red Springs. Many are former military, some have never served, but all members of the Patriot Guard have a solemn pledge.

"We will never let a veteran or another service person go unnoticed, we remember them , will remember them , and as long as I'm alive as long as the patriot guard is running , we will remember all veterans," says ride captain Mike Eubank.

This annual gathering gives them a chance to talk about all they've done over the past year, and how its effected those they have honored.

"We forge relationships friendships build comradery," says member Christina Odem.

"Our people live down Centerville, Nacogdoches all the way up to Texarkana we rarely have a chance to get all together," Eubank says.

They talk about the joys of welcoming home our modern day heroes.

"You get to welcome these guys home and you get to see their family's just overtaken with joy," Odem says.

And take with somber respect the duty of laying them to rest.

"We do this to show our respect to the military and to their military families, it is a pleasure to me to be able to go an honor these families they've done a lot for us," says rider and Korean war veteran Charlie Tucker.

And they will continue, even if they are the only ones, to honor all who serve.

"We owe to welcome them home no matter what," Odem says.

The three day event will feature fun runs, and silent auctions to help raise money to fun patriot guard events.
