City council approves alcohol consumption at ETX park

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A vote by the Longview City Council means that alcohol will soon be allowed at a city park.

The council approved alcohol use at Heritage Plaza---with restrictions.

The vote was five to one to allow alcohol sales and consumption at the downtown park.

Any event at the park wishing to serve alcoholic beverages must obtain permits from the city and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Mayor Pro-tem Richard Manly says, "This is only a permitted activity, great control, just as the mayor said, you can't walk out with a six pack of beer and plop down without getting arrested. This requires an extreme permitting process of both the City and TABC."

Alcohol use will allowed at Heritage Plaza from five to 11 on week nights, and from six a.m. 'til 11 on the weekend.
