Man throws kittens from moving vehicle

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Around 1 a.m. Jonesboro Police responded to the call of a man throwing kittens from a moving vehicle headed eastbound on East Matthews.

Police officers arrested 24-year-old Nicholas Carter and charged him with aggravated cruelty.

The witness reported seeing two kittens thrown from the vehicle.  Police found one of the kittens severely injured.  It later died.  The second kitten has yet to be found.

The six feet, 340 lb. man told officers he has a fear of cats.  Officer Steven McDaniel said animal abuse is against the law under any circumstances.  "If you plan on abusing an animal, there's a high likelihood that you will be caught and charged."

Jonesboro Police have about 40 cases of animal cruelty on record from January to August of this year.  In most cases, the animals were abandoned or left without food and water.
