ETX man indicted on possession, receipt, distribution of child porn

BEAUMONT, Texas (KLTV) - A 51-year-old Longview, Texas man has been indicted on charges of child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Mitchell Duane Porter was indicted by a federal grand jury on Sept. 21, 2011 and charged with production of child pornography, possession of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. 

According to the indictment, on Mar. 4, 2011, a forensic analysis of Porter's personal computers revealed images of child pornography.  If convicted, Porter faces up to 30 years in federal prison.

This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. This case is being investigated by the ICE/HSI and the Harrison County Sheriff's Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher T. Tortorice.
