LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man who in the past year has been arrested several times, accused of burning his mother's house and seriously injured in a shooting is back behind bars after deputies say he threw a shake-and-bake meth lab out of his window.

Sgt. Allen Hill said deputies responded to a tip of criminal activity around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on FM 1475, the property where James Edwin Durham, 39, is accused of burning his mother's house while cooking meth in November 2010. When deputies arrived, they shined a spotlight on a makeshift house on the property and saw Durham throw a shake-and-bake lab, which is a method of making meth with a plastic bottle, out of the window.

Hill said deputies arrested Durham on a charge of tampering with evidence and are working on getting a warrant on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Durham also has charges pending for arson, evading arrest and delivery of a controlled substance in unrelated incidents.

Durham was injured in May, after being shot in the buttocks, at the same location. Deputies arrested James Brent Shires, 21, of Lufkin, in connection to the shooting.
