Stolen City Funds Could Top $1 Million

The city of Tyler is reporting lost funds that could top $1-million dollars. An investigation continues into a former city employee accused of stealing municipal court funds and using them to pay off gambling debts. Denise Owens was arrested in August and is charged with felony theft. Owens allegedly pocketed money paid for traffic fines and then created fake jail records to cover up the transaction. An investigation into the scheme began last spring when a court administrator discovered discrepancies in court records.
