Giant satellite will soon plunge to earth

(CNN) - A giant satellite will soon begin its plunge to Earth.

NASA says it will happen on Friday, give or take a day. The space agency expects more than two-dozen pieces of the satellite to survive re-entry and hit the Earth's surface.

But just where they will land is anybody's guess right now.

NASA says the chances of a piece hitting a person is one in 3200. The six-ton satellite is NASA's Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite.

It was launched in 1991 and decommissioned in 2005, when it ran out of fuel and its batteries died.
