Neal McCoy urges support for charity concert

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- An east Texas country music artist is gearing up for an annual charity event, and hopes that all of the distractions in the past month will not effect the generosity of east Texans. Homegrown country music star Neal McCoy is looking to draw big crowds to his annual east Texas angel network event this month, in spite of the hardships that people have faced this summer.

"With all that we have going on the fires , its really easy for someone to go and get caught up into that and forget about what we're trying to do every year. remember that these children around here , there's some family and children that need help every day, you're going to get new tires for your car, these people are fixing to have surgery for their child," Neal says.

18 years ago, a cause caught McCoy's attention, something that has remained part of his life.

"Its one of the if not the most , fulfilling things that I've done. When you get an opportunity to be around these folks who have children that are struggling with health issues of who may get better and who may not get better then you kind of figure out it does put everything into place," he says.

His annual concert to benefit the east Texas angel network, will include familiar faces, like Charlie Pride, Jack Hannah, and the Dallas cowboys cheerleaders. But its the cause that he hopes people come for.

"When you buy a ticket to a concert you donating to help the folks and their children and families here in east Texas," McCoy says.

Money goes to help families care for children and adults who have debilitating illness or injury.

"Your money is going to help some wonderful children around here, I'd like this event to be remembered one day in terms of we did good while we were here, and that's all anybody tries to do," he says.

Neal McCoy's golf tournament is this Friday at Oak Forest country club at 10-am. The concert is Saturday night a Lobo coliseum at 7 pm.
