WWII vet loses precious memories in fire

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The fires that have scorched many areas in East Texas have been tragic for so many.

But one loss in Upshur County has captured the sympathy of many neighbors.

A World War II veteran that lost everything to the fast moving fire on Tuesday.

Tuesday's fire on Hwy 154 in Rosewood destroyed nine homes, but none came as hard as the loss of the home of 91-year-old Lloyd Wells.

We at KLTV know Wells, he was featured on Freedom Fighters--A World War II Army paratrooper who fought from North Africa to Italy to the Battle of the Bulge.

His wartime pictures and keepsakes also vanished in the fire. For Wells the hardest part is losing a lifetime of memories he had collected.

At 91, he's independent and still tough as boot leather, but none of life's experiences prepared him for this.

But even in loss, Wells remains as tough as his paratrooper days.

Mr. Wells is insured and says he will rebuild.

True to his unselfish nature, well's asks that east Texans help others who have been victims of the fires.
