(CNN) - The long-time host of the Christian television program The 700 Club shocked several viewers after advising a man to divorce his wife.

Pat Robertson was asked on his show to give advice to a man whose wife is suffering from Alzheimer's.

The man's friend wrote a letter to the show saying his wife doesn't recognize him and he is "bitter at God" and has started seeing another woman.

When Robertson's co-host asked what the man should do, Robertson said the man should divorce her and "start all over again."

A spokesperson for the Christian Broadcasting Network, which airs The 700 Club, had no comment.
